I saw an old YouTube video that intrigued me. A person ventured out on an empty stage during an outdoor event, and started doing a really silly dance. The audience was milling around and ignored the guy completely until a second person joined him on stage and started mimicking his actions. Soon dozens more joined in, until there was a movement on stage of laughing people imitating the first dancer. It took a follower to generate action and make something happen.
Where can you strengthen your relationships, offer help to a colleague, look for new allies? You never know when you’ll need a follower, someone who trusts you, believes in your worth and the value of your ideas. We accomplish so much more when we’re working with others instead of in isolation, doing it all ourselves. There’s tremendous synergy when people collaborate and join forces, and it starts with building small bridges and nurturing relationships every day. It’s an investment well worth making.
