Our European GPS was on, but useless. I had googled “hotels near me” and every place had no parking. It was raining and we were really tired, renting our car from the airport and driving to the small town of Pisa. Finally, a beautiful site came into view, a hotel with parking.
We were in Italy, and as of yet had seen very little in the dark, nothing but rain-slick roads and dark towns. We settled in and began scouring our guidebooks to plan our first sightseeing day. Then I happened to look out our window and was shocked, probably thirty feet away stood the Leaning Tower of Pisa, bathed in lights.
Have you ever missed your Leaning Tower? I think all of us miss opportunities because we’re so busy looking down—focused on work or preoccupied with our next meeting. Perhaps just the effort to be more observant, to notice what is happening in our lives, may uncover some amazing wonders right around the corner. You never know unless you start looking.
