In Betty White’s book If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t), she is quoted as saying “Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.”
Kind of says it all, doesn’t it? When I was younger, I had dreams of being special, of standing out (doesn’t everyone), and as I’ve gotten older, I realize that it’s how I use my passion to make a difference that counts. We aren’t cherished because of who we are, but by how it impacts others.
What really matters to you? How can you leverage your passion this new year to leave your own legacy, one footprint at a time?
We can squish footprints in the sand, we can stomp footprints in the snow, and we can leave a legacy with our own unique footprint. Of course, those ubiquitous voices in our head try to stop us, convince us that change isn’t possible. Thank goodness we don’t have to listen; our past does not forecast our present or our future.
Let’s all make this the year of deciding how we can make a difference using our talents and passions, and then start doing it. As Lao Tzu reminded us, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step,” and can certainly leave many enduring footprints.
