I often ask in my classes, tell me about your mentors/heroes. Who would you like sitting next to you for a day and what would this person teach you. Well, very seldom do people turn around and ask me who my mentors would be, so I thought I’d mention a few here, in case you haven’t yet had the luxury of learning about what makes them so special.

Sir Ernest Shackleton – Antarctic explorer. Quote: “Optimism is true moral courage.”

Nellie Bly – Trailblazing journalist. Quote: “I always have a comfortable feeling that nothing is impossible if one applies a certain amount of energy in the right direction.”

Nkosi Johnson – South African AIDS patient and spokesperson. Quote: “Do all you can with what you have, in the time you have, in the place you are.”

Beryl Markham – Aviator, who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic from east to west. Quote: “Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead. Passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones, while the future lies in a cloud, formidable from a distance.”

Who are some of your heroes? Would love to hear.
